The National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP) and the Rise for Education Alliance have had enough of the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) and the Aquino government’s systematized abandonment of its responsibility to education. The yearly increase in tuition and school fees, the perennial budget cuts to state education, the increasing number of dropouts and out-of-school youths, and the intensifying violation of student rights are mere manifestations of the systemic problem of Philippine education worsened by CHED and Aquino. Padlock the Paper Tiger Students and youth trooped CHED today, May 29, 2014, to literally and figuratively “padlock” the…

This the CHED Chair stated after announcing that the commission approved 171 tuition increase applications from private higher education institutions (PHEIs), excluding pending tuition increase applications from Regions 2, 3 and NCR. “NUSP lambasts Licuanan’s pronouncement, if indeed only 8% are truly impoverished, then why is it that more and more students cannot afford the high cost of private or even state education. CHED’s own data –…

“Why do students remain vigilant in the call for a tuition moratorium?” The National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP) and its member councils and students continue with intensified spirits the fight against the unabated and inhumane tuition and school fees increases and impositions in the country.
